Stormwater fee dies amid controversy

A proposed stormwater utility fee appears dead in East Baton Rouge after critics say the mayor-president misled them over a non-disclosure agreement with the federal government, reports The Advocate (10/19/22, Cobler). Metro council members want hearings on the matter, even after a vote on the fee was pulled by the mayor, reports The Advocate (10/18/22, Cobler). Residents at packed meetings demanded to know why the fee was being rushed for a vote with little discussion of its need, reports The Advocate (10/17/22, Cobler). A congressman blasted a lack of transparency over the proposal amid “ferocious opposition,” reports The Advocate (10/13/22, Cobler).
